How is Tencel material made?

First, cellulose (a protein found in wood) is extracted from the wood bark. It is then crushed and dissolved in a non-toxic solvent . The dissolution of the fiber in this organic solvent requires only a single step and is 5 times faster than for other types of viscose (namely, viscose is also a material made from wood, but whose transformation is chemical). After dissolution, the solvent used to make Tencel is more than 99% recovered for reuse. The Tencel production circuit is therefore a closed circuit. All materials necessary for the production of Tencel are constantly recycled, purified and reused according to the same principle as circularity .

The production of Tencel therefore has a particularly low impact on the environment.

‍ Furthermore , the trees used were selected for their low water consumption. Eucalyptus, for example, only needs rainwater. And unlike cotton, no pesticides or intensive irrigation systems are necessary.
