Tencel, an ecological material serving responsible fashion
Tencel, or Lyocell, was produced for the first time in the 1980s. It is an artificial fiber made from wood pulp, notably eucalyptus but also spruce, pine and even wood. birch.
Increasingly used in the textile industry, particularly in the sportswear industry, Tencel is a very interesting ecological fabric. Focus on this fabric and all the advantages of choosing Tencel clothing, especially sports clothing.
How is Tencel material made?
First, cellulose (a protein found in wood) is extracted from the wood bark. It is then crushed and dissolved in a non-toxic solvent . The dissolution of the fiber in this organic solvent requires only a single step and is 5 times faster than for other types of viscose (namely, viscose is also a material made from wood, but whose transformation is chemical). After dissolution, the solvent used to make Tencel is more than 99% recovered for reuse. The Tencel production circuit is therefore a closed circuit. All materials necessary for the production of Tencel are constantly recycled, purified and reused according to the same principle as circularity .
The production of Tencel therefore has a particularly low impact on the environment.
Furthermore , the trees used were selected for their low water consumption. Eucalyptus, for example, only needs rainwater. And unlike cotton, no pesticides or intensive irrigation systems are necessary.
Tencel, a material that is revolutionizing the textile industry.
Tencel is an artificial fiber. But it is called ecological because its production is respectful of the environment. It is increasingly present in the textile industry, replacing viscose, a very polluting material to produce and the origin of a large part of the microplastics found in the oceans. Leader in the production of Tencel, Lenzing (an Austrian company) is the main supplier to brands which, like Circle Sportswear, integrate this eco-innovative fiber into the manufacture of their clothing.
Tencel sportswear: what are the benefits?
Beyond its essential aspect, eco-responsibility, if Tencel is increasingly popular in the textile industry and in particular in that of sportswear, it is because Tencel is a technical fiber which has many advantages:
Tencel regulates perspiration
Tencel fiber has a very high moisture absorption capacity. The nanofibrils that compose it transport moisture to the heart of the fiber, allowing the surface to remain perfectly dry. For all athletes, wearing clothing that remains dry throughout the effort is a great source of comfort.
Tencel neutralizes odors
When a fiber is damp, bacteria proliferate there and they are the cause of unpleasant odors. Bacteria need humidity. But because Tencel allows the surface of the garment to remain dry, bacteria can no longer grow there as much as on a synthetic fiber garment. Tencel sportswear is ideal for feeling comfortable and confident throughout your training. Even after a particularly intense workout, no odor spoils the pleasure of sport!
Tencel is soft and light to wear
Tencel fiber is very smooth. It is thus recognized for being particularly soft and supple to wear. Furthermore, the Tencel material, by providing a second skin effect, also provides a very pleasant refreshing side. Running, trail running, Yoga , Pilates, dancing, whatever the sport, sports clothing in Tencel material accompanies all movements for incomparable comfort.
Tencel is ultra resistant
The very structure of the Tencel fiber, very stable, means that a Tencel, or Lyocell, garment is particularly resistant to tearing and pilling. For sports clothing, subject to strong constraints and often put in the washing machine, Tencel material is therefore particularly interesting. Choosing a t-shirt , a tank top , or a crop-top made from Tencel material is a guarantee of sustainability, as much as a commitment to more eco-responsible consumption that respects the planet.
